A mobile COVID-19 testing unit will be in Girvan on Monday and Tuesday next week.
This temporary facility will allow people who have COVID-19 symptoms to get a free swab test as part of the Government’s UK-wide drive to improve the accessibility of coronavirus testing for communities.
The unit will be set up on Monday, January 18 and Tuesday, January 19 at the Quay Zone site in Knockcushan Street.
The site will be open from 10am to 6pm both days.
Tests must be booked in advance with the booking portal and can be booked at: https://www.nhsinform.scot/test-and-protect or by calling 0800 028 2816.
The mobile unit comes after news last week that Girvan is the coronavirus capital of South Ayrshire.
The number of positive results of COVID-19 have risen sharply in the town and in the Glendoune area, with data released by Public Health Scotland showing that between January 2 and January 8 the rate of Covid has increased to 400+ per 100,000 in both Girvan Ailsa and Girvan Glendoune.
Mobile test centres provide another way for people without access to cars to book appointments.
If you’re coming to be tested, you will be required to follow public health measures, including: physical distancing; not travelling by taxi or public transport; practising good personal hygiene and wearing a face covering throughout (including travelling to and from the mobile testing sites).
You should only book a test if you have coronavirus symptoms (a high temperature, a new and continuous cough, or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste).
Councillor Peter Henderson, leader of South Ayrshire Council, said: "Testing is critical to controlling the spread of coronavirus and I am pleased that the mobile test unit will return to Girvan next week.
"We all have a part to play in suppressing the virus, so if you have any symptoms of COVID-19, please don’t wait – now is the time to get tested."
