Mobile Covid-19 testing unit set up in Sunderland- and you don't have to book

A mobile coronavirus testing unit has been set up at a business park in Sunderland - and you don't have to book in for a test.

The unit has been set up at Azure Court, Doxford International Business Park, Sunderland, on Tuesday (July 21) for anyone wanting to get tested for the virus.

It will be available from July 21, 22, 23, 26, 28 and 29 between 10.30am and 3.30pm.

Photos from the centre show army personnel wearing masks, gloves and aprons as they test people from their windows to take swabs from drivers so that they can be tested for Covid-19.

Although you don’t need to book in for a test, you do have to register beforehand on the NHS website.

It only takes 10 minutes to register but if you can’t do this online and have no one to help you, you can call 119 for assistance.

Once registered, you will get a code that the mobile testing site can attach to your test.

Anyone driving to the test site is reminded to keep their car windows closed until the staff ask you to open them to reduce the risk of spreading the virus during the testing process itself.

Coronavirus symptoms include a high temperature, continuous cough and a loss of or change to your sense of smell or taste.

You can register for testing by visiting the NHS website here.
