Mo Salah's brilliant message to PFA Player of the Year successor Virgil van Dijk

Mohamed Salah stole the show on PFA night - even though he wasn't there!

The Liverpool striker won the Player of the Year award last year so knows the official hush-hush process.

Despite this, he let the cat out of the bag an hour early - revealing Virgil van Dijk was the winner ages before his team-mate's big moment.

His twitter clanger didn't stop him returning to social media for more soon after.

Not only did he tell everyone what most of us already knew, but the Egyptian later uploaded a story on Instagram possibly having a poke at being ignored this time around.

He again congratulated van Dijk before saying "just be careful you don'twin all the awards this year...otherwise you know what will happen next year!"

Fans loved Salah blowing the big moment - especially as he must have been well aware of the process after he lifted the trophy last year.

"IT'S TOO SOON MO IT'S A SECRET" wrote one Liverpool fan.

"How funny would this be if we actually didn't know!" another said.

Defender van Dijk was delighted with his award in London.

"I think it's special, definitely," he said. "If you see the standard of strikers we have in the league or playmakers we have in the league, it's unbelievable.

"If you see the shortlist and quality there is, it's very special that the players in the league voted for me. I won't take it for granted. It's just very special.

Jurgen Klopp's hilarious PFA Awards message after Virgil van Dijk wins Player of the Year

"I think throughout the whole season I've been feeling great. We've been winning many games, we are competing with Man City for the title and I think the most important thing is to stay fit and play consistent as well - I think I've been doing that pretty well this season.

"Obviously without the help of my team-mates, it wouldn't be possible but we have just to keep going, carry on and I'm feeling good."

Liverpool are getting ready for Barcelona on Wednesday as they look to make the Champions League final again.
