'Mo Salah got his inspiration from Eden Hazard' - Chelsea fans spot likeness in Liverpool goal

After watching Liverpool forward Mo Salah slalom past the majority of the Manchester City team before firing the ball past Ederson at the weekend, Chelsea fans would be forgiven for experiencing a touch of de ja vu.

The goal was certainly memorable on its own as the Egyptian weaved in and out of a number of challenges before finishing spectacularly.

Despite the strike, Liverpool were only able to secure a point in a 2-2 draw with Manchester City.

Following the goal, comparisons were drawn to a very similar effort that former Chelsea star Eden Hazard managed to score at Anfield against Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Taking on the Reds during a Carabao Cup clash during the 2018/19 campaign, the Blues were sat at 1-1 with the game heading into the final five minutes.

The brilliant Belgian intervened though as he picked up the ball on the right flank and evaded a couple of challenges.

Like Salah, he drove the ball home past the goalkeeper Simon Mignolet (on that occasion) and the strike was eventually awarded Chelsea’s goal of the season award.

Following the strike, Chelsea fans took to Reddit to share their memories of Hazard’s goal and their comparisons with Salah’s own effort.

Here are the best of their responses:

Firecloud7: Just realised where Salah got his inspiration from for his goal against Man City...

eric_3196: Salah’s goal was class but this goal was something else. This was prime pass to hazard and inshallah

Butchermorgan: Much more satisfying than Salah’s goal

Biazos: Hazard had that special flair, Salah looks clumsy imo

TheOgMrBobo: It’s hilarious that I see this because I thought while watching Salahs goal that I haven’t seen anything like that in the EPL since Hazard

Nofakefans18: It pains me that people will forget that 18/19 season. Should have won POTY but didn’t even make TOTS.

RegressionToTheDream: My favorite part about this goal will always be the way he runs over to get the ball back. He wants it, he knows what he's about to try, and he does it.

RunsWithBison23: Never ceases to amaze me how incredible this goal was. One of the greatest of all time

The_Tobaughn: You could just tell when Eden was about to make magic. He would just start demanding the ball all over the pitch

Mac_Oballa: Masterclass Harzad, greatly missed at the bridge, the joy of watching him grace the occasion in Blue colours was just so marvelous, live long the Belgian giant...
