Mo Farah accused of 'punching and kicking' husband and wife by Haile Gebrselassie

Sir Mo Farah has been accused of 'punching and kicking' a husband and wife at Haile Gebrselassie's hotel in Ethiopia.

The astonishing claim has been made by long-distance rival Gebrselassie as the war of words continues.

Farah claimed on Wednesday that his room at the athletics legends's hotel had been broken into with a watch, two phones and £2,579, in four currencies, stolen.

A furious Gebrselassie responded by alleging “multiple reports of disgraceful conduct” by Farah and his entourage.

The Ethiopian has now continued the row further, stating Farah had 'tried to destroy my name'.

Gebrselassie claims multiple witnesses had seen an altercation between Farah and a married couple at the hotel gym.

“Farah said to him ‘Why are you following me?’ The guy said he wasn’t – and that he was just doing his work," he told the Guardian.

"Immediately Farah punched them and kicked them by foot. Especially the husband. There were lots of witnesses. He cannot deny it because there was enough people inside the gym who saw the action.”

Gebrselassie, 46, even claims he intervened to stop police questioning Farah, adding: "Always when he does something wrong or whatever we take care of him, because he is a big name.

"When he reacted to the two athletes in the gym, and he kicked and punched, he was almost in police custody. But I talked to the police and said ‘this is Mo Farah, he is a big athlete, he is an international name’. Leave him."

A statement from Farah's spokesperson denied he was involved in any altercation, suggesting the claims from Gebreselassie were an 'effort to distract from the situation'.

Gebrselassie who has disputed Farah's initial claims over the theft, also claims Farah left without paying a hotel bill of over £2300.

The Ethiopian suggests Farah had returned his safe box to reception before the alleged incident took place.

He plans to discuss what legal action to take against Farah with his lawyers this week.
