A Russian MMA fight ended when one fighter became tangled up in his own legs and essentially submitted himself.
Tajikistani fighter Muyasar Abutrobov was on his way to a relatively comfortable win in his second professional fight against Magomed Gadzhiev when he went for a submission. The pair were fighting on Russian promotion Arena, who released their card on YouTube featuring the outlandish moment.
The fight took place at bantamweight, and was different from a number of these lesser-known Russian cards in that the competitors appeared to be two athletes as opposed to some sort of freak show bout. Abutrobov had started slowly, and had to come back from suffering early damage before taking control of the fight.
The fight was always going to the ground, with Gadzhiev trying a guillotine after his opponent had taken him down and got into side control. But after Abutrobov began landing knees after ducking under Gadzhiev's attack, it began to seem that the fight was going in his favour.
Abutrobov looked to finish the fight after a series of heavy shots by dipping down to go for some sort of rolling knee bar, but got his legs caught. Out of nowhere, Gadzhiev was able to slightly adjust and the fight was very quickly called off with a submission.
Both men were early in their careers, and it is unclear if the bout will show on either's professional record, or if it was an amateur contest. It appears that Abutrobov was 1-0 going into the fight, while Gadzhiev's record was not stated.

Fans mocked the fighter for his silly self-submission, with one saying "I’ve seen this a few times and I’m still not sure how he did that lol." In response to the joking tweet, another explained the incident, adding: "Twisted wrong and killed his ACL, if you’re in a weird position, one small movement and tear it instantly, and his was with pressure."
It joins a string of strange fights coming from Russia, where promotions like Epic Fighting Championship frequently put on cards with wacky match-ups such as a dwarf fighting a pornstar. Four-foot-tall dwarf Majit Suleymanov defeated pornstar Alexandra Piskun last month in a ridiculous bout that sparked a riot in the arena.
Chaos was sparked in the cage after Suleymanov was carried away by four men following his fight with Piskun, that also saw another person get involved in the second round. He bundled one man to the floor before hitting another sending him to the canvas with his opponent trying to prevent him from involving more people.
