MMA fighter Sage Northcutt reveals shocking injuries after brutal knockout

MMA star Sage Northcutt has revealed he underwent nine hours of surgery after suffering eight fractures during his ONE Championship debut in Singapore on Friday.

The former UFC prospect was knocked out after just 29 seconds during his fight against multi-time kickboxing world-champion Cosmo Alexandre.

Northcutt was left lying on the canvas after a flurry of punches from the Brazilian, causing the referee to call the fight off and leaving the Indoor Singpore Stadium stunned.

The 23-year-old was sent to hospital to receive treatment and he later revealed the extent of his injuries from the fight in a post to his official Instagram account.

Alongside photos of the American in his hospital bed and an x-ray of his skull, Northcutt wrote: "Fresh out of surgery. I had eight fractures and a nine-hour intense operation.

"Feeling blessed for the amazing care and all the support from One Championship, my family/friends and fans!

"My Terminator face is not too Shabby. “I’ll be back!” Next post is catheter removal... stay tuned."

It was Northcutt's first fight since he followed the likes of Demetrious Johnson and Eddie Alvarez in trading UFC for the One Championship.

It was the only the American's third MMA defeat and his first since 2016, when he was beaten by Mickey Gall during his time in UFC.

For former kickboxing champion Alexandre, the victory extended his record to 8-1 in MMA.

After the fight, The Sun reported the Brazilian as saying: "Who has he fought? He's like a pretty boy, American dream and you know how it works in the US.

"He's sells the fight, nice hair, blah, blah, blah - almost one million followers on Instagram - maybe I can get some of those followers.

"I know he's a fast guy, I don't know if he's strong as the fight was short but he's fast and does different things that are kind of dangerous in the fight.

"For him it was just a fight for me to win."
