A martial arts fighter has been jailed for an unprovoked attack outside a bar that left his victim with a fractured skull and a brain haemorrhage.
Aftab Miah, 37, inflicted life-changing injuries on Kit Bruce, 24, after a single punch sent him crashing to the floor, hitting his head on the pavement and leaving him unconscious.
Hot yoga instructor, Miah punched Mr Bruce in the face outside Libation bar in Hove, East Sussex, after a row broke out at another boozer across the road in the seaside town.
The first fracas began at Pascal's Bistro Bar at around 11pm on May 21, when Miah, who is a trained mixed martial artist, was seen punching the victim in the face before both men with their groups of friends were told to leave.
Mr Bruce and his friends went to another bar across the street, while Miah left the area, police said.
But around an hour later, just before midnight, Mr Bruce left the bar and was walking along the street, when Miah got out of the passenger seat of a car that pulled up alongside them.
Witnesses saw Miah punch his victim in the face in an "unprovoked attack" before getting back in the vehicle and driving away.
His victim fell backwards and hit his head on the floor, suffering a fractured skull that led to a bleed on the brain.
CCTV captured the attack and Miah was arrested the next day after being identified by witnesses.
Four out of the five witnesses were also able to positively identify him from a line-up, according to Sussex Police.
At Lewes Crown Court last month, Miah was jailed for 21 months after pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm without intent.
He was also ordered to pay a £190 victim surcharge.
Detective Police Constable James Botting of Sussex Police on Tuesday described the assault as "callous and unprovoked".
He said: "This was a callous, unprovoked attack in which Aftab Miah left his victim lying in the street with serious injuries.
"Miah has a number of previous convictions for violent crimes and this custodial sentence has taken a violent offender off our streets.
"Violence of any kind has no place in our city and we will continue working to tackle violent behaviour through enforcement and alongside our partner agencies to try to steer people away from violence."
Brighton and Hove City Council revoked Pascal's Bistro Bar's alcohol licence last month after the violent attack.
Online Miah describes himself as a "body conscious" businessman with an "entrepreneur's brain in a professional sportsman's physique".
His site states he became a professional MMA athlete in 2013 and has over 100 bouts at different MMA disciplines, as well as turning professional in Muay Thai in 2015 - currently training and competing in the sport.
