MLS all-stars to play Tottenham in summer exhibition

April 15--Major League Soccer announced Wednesday that its all-star team will meet English club Tottenham Hotspur this summer in Colorado.

That game, to be played July 29, will mark the 12th time in 20 seasons that the MLS all-stars have played an international club in the midsummer exhibition. Last season, the MLS side beat German giant Bayern Munich, running its record to 7-3-1 against European teams.

Other clubs that have taken part in the game include Manchester United, Everton and Chelsea of the English Premier League and Italy's AS Roma.

"We'd like to thank Major League Soccer for the invitation to take part in the 2015 All-Star Game," Tottenham Hotspur Coach Mauricio Pochettino said in a statement. "The fact that this will be our only fixture outside of Europe during preseason says a lot about how we view this game. We enjoyed three tough matches last summer in North America and the quality of football in MLS continues to grow every year.

"We know the quality of the facilities will be top-class and we see this fixture against the best players from MLS as good preparation."

With six games to play, Tottenham is seventh in the EPL table, four points out of a berth in next year's Europa League tournament.
