MLB The Show 26 is right around the corner, but it looks like a large number of people won’t be able to play it on their favorite handheld console. The Show 25 was graphically inferior on the original Switch, but the Switch 2 is a significantly more powerful console, enabling better parity across various consoles in terms of graphics and overall quality.
What’s even more worrying is that the game is allegedly coming to the original Switch, but not the new Switch 2. If that’s the case, we may not be getting much of a graphical upgrade after all. Hopefully, it’s just the case of a late Switch 2 port down the line, but fans are already worrying.
Will MLB The Show 26 Be Worth It On The Original Switch?
The OG Switch was underpowered at launch, and almost nine years later, it’s an even weaker console in terms of performance. Sure, first-party Nintendo games always make it work, but largely because there was never really a choice. Third-party games rarely fare better, and while MLB The Show 25 ran fine, it obviously looks notably worse than the PS5 version.
Even then, it makes sense that SDS isn’t skipping the original Switch. The install base is massive (over 154 million), and there are plenty of people out there who just want to play the game and don’t care about graphics. Sadly, for those of us who’ve grown tired of the same dated textures and graphical fidelity, we’ll just have to settle once again.
Now, you can still buy the Switch version of the game and play it on the Switch 2. And while it will run better, just like The Show 25 did, the character models and textures still look off. It’s a bit ridiculous for what’s ultimately a $60 with a $20 upgrade for the Switch 2. Some speculate that the lack of a Switch 2 port is possibly because SDS didn’t get a Switch 2 Dev kit in time.
Whatever the explanation may be, the news is certainly a bit worrying for those who were hoping for a noticeable upgrade in fidelity.
MLB The Show 26 will be released in mid-March.
