MLB The Show 25: Summer Series and Ted Williams

The dog days of summer have finally arrived, which means Major League Baseball will start kicking into high gear and playoff contenders will start becoming more obvious (or be exposed as pretenders). To celebrate the weather getting warmer, MLB The Show 25 has dropped some new content.

Known as the Summer Series, this all-new collection of cards boasts a ton of usable cards. And San Diego Studio even threw in a new 99-rated card, which is sure to make your lineup should you collect the necessary cards and vouchers.

Ted Williams Has A Crazy 99

First up is the newly announced 99-rated Ted Williams. As one would predict, the Boston Red Sox legend is straight juiced in almost every category, with max contact, max power against righties (and close to against lefties), and max clutch. He’s a truly glorious card. Unfortunately, in order to get him, you’re gonna have to grind. And hard.

The Hall of Fame Ted Williams card is only obtainable for players who collect all the required 24 cards and vouchers he requires. This is similar to the 99 Scott Rolen, which required 18 cards and vouchers. It’s a steep price, and will probably require either some luck or for you to have saved up enough Stubs to buy whatever you’re missing. But Ted is an animal at the plate, so he’s more than worth the effort.

Summer Series Program, Packs, And Collection

Also released today was the Summer Series collection of cards. Let’s start with the Summer Series program. In total, when combined with the deluxe pack given towards the end of its progression, the Summer Series programs will give players 6 Summer Series cards. The cards — as well as the Stars required to get them — are listed below:

  • 90-rated Camilo oval (10 Stars)
  • 91-rated Catfish Hunter (30 Stars)
  • 91-rated Michael Toglia (55 Stars)
  • 92-rated Jeremy Pena (80 Stars)
  • Deluxe Summer Series Pack (95 Stars)
  • 93-rated Nick Castellanos (100 Stars)

Overall, the cards aren’t bad. Doval is always a solid reliever with the Outlier quirk on his cutter, and Caatellanos has one of the better swings in the game. You can also get a Bert Blyleven and Kyle Farmer free if you play Mini Seasons, and a decent Sonny Gray and Kyle Luwick are available for doing Diamond Quest.

Unfortunately, like most new content drops so far this year, the best stuff is in the packs. In total, there are 15 Summer Series cards hidden in the promo packs, headlined by 93-rated Jackson Holliday in the themed pack and a 95-rated Willy Mayes in Chase Packs. Here is every card available in the Summer Series pack:

  • 91-rated Paul DeJong
  • 91-rated Geraldo Perdomo
  • 91-rated Brandon Marsh
  • 91-rated Victor Robles
  • 91-rated Spencer Steer
  • 91-rated Lance McCullers Jr.
  • 92-rated Chili Davis
  • 92-rated Ke’Bryan Hayes
  • 92-rated Carlos Pena
  • 92-rated Chris Bassitt
  • 92-rated Griffin Jax
  • 93-rated Eddie Murray
  • 93-rated Sandy Alcantara
  • 93-rated Matt Strahm
  • 93-rated Jackson Holliday

In order to complete the Summer Series Collection, you’re going to need plenty of these cards. The Summer Series Collection cards (and how many collected cards they require) are listed below:

  • 93-rated Aaron Bummer (Collect 11)
  • 94-rated Jarren Duran (Collect 19)
  • 95-rated Adley Rutschman (Collect 27)

As you can see below the header above, Adley’s card is really good. He’s a switch-hitting catcher with high contact, good power, and high clutch. He’s also great on defense. The problem is that in order to unlock him, you’ll have to grab some of those pack cards.
