MK Dons interim boss update ahead of Bolton Wanderers after Swansea City's Russell Martin capture

Dean Lewington will take interim charge of MK Dons for the meantime ahead of their League One opener against Bolton Wanderers this weekend.

The Dons are on the lookout for a new boss following the departure of Russell Martin to Championship side Swansea City to fill the vacancy left by Steve Cooper leaving the Welsh side.

The Trotters take on the Stadium MK outfit this Saturday at the University of Bolton Stadium for the first fixture of the new season.

But Martin will not be in charge of the Dons after he left the club to take charge of Swansea, after the Liberty Stadium outfit paid the buyout clause in his contract.

An MK Dons club statement read: "It goes without saying that we are extremely disappointed by the timing of this departure.

"Nevertheless, the club would like to thank Russell for his contribution and work during his 21 months in charge and wish him, and his team, all the best for the future."

Ahead of taking on Wanderers this Saturday, veteran left-back Lewington will be in interim charge of the Dons, the club's sporting director Liam Sweeting has confirmed.

The 37-year-old will be in charge of the club while the Dons search for a new boss.

Former Chelsea assistant boss Jody Morris has been installed as the early favourite by the bookmakers to be the club's new permanent manager.
