Mizuho Securities Co. will begin training programs using an artificial intelligence system in fiscal 2021 for employees in charge of sales activities, company president Koichi Iida said in an interview with The Yomiuri Shimbun.

As competition among securities companies targeting the wealthy has become increasingly fierce, the firm aims to separate itself from rivals by improving the sales skills of individual employees.

The AI system will analyze data such as the number of times sales employees have contact with clients and their past sales figures. Then training programs that best fit each employee's characteristics, makeup and capabilities will be introduced.

By pinpointing differences between employees with excellent sales numbers and others, the company will then identify goals for its workers to achieve.

The company has already input the data of about 2,500 sales staffers ??to individual clients??. The data comprise a total of 1,000 points, including frequency of meetings with clients, business performance and licentiates they have.

By the end of March next year, the AI system will analyze the data and present results: favorable aspects or areas the employees should improve.

Based on the analysis of the results, the company will determine policies for training methods to best utilize instruction from those in management.

Said Iida: "We can analyze capabilities of employees who are trusted by clients through the power of science, and strengthen our capability to foster human resources. As a general securities trader company, we want to deliver a wide range of investment opportunities."
