AIZAWL: Mizoram's social activist Vanramchhuangi on Friday reiterated that 100% perennial and seasonal streams near national highway construction sites in Mizoram have been buried by excavated soil unscrupulously disposed of by construction workers.
The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), fully owned by the ministry of road transport and highways, is constructing Zokhawthar (Seling to Myanmar border), Keifang to Manipur, Lunglei to Tlabung in southern Mizoram and National Highway 54 between Aizawl and Tuipang town on the Myanmar border in southernmost Mizoram's Siaha district.
Speaking to media persons at Serchhip town in central Mizoram, Vanramchhuangi said the contractors constructing roads in several areas under the NHIDCL disposed of the excavated soil by dumping it into the forest on the hill slopes, burying all the perennial and seasonal streams in the areas.
