Mixed results as EKYM return to competitive action

East Kilbride YM sides experienced mixed fortunes as their teams got back into action in their end-of-season competitions.

On Tuesday evening a quick-fire hat-trick from Kyle Rankin, and goals by Mark O’Donnell and Fraser Gray saw the Greater Glasgow Premier League side comfortably beat GSC Reds 5-2.

They then recorded a resounding 6-1 win at Eaglesham on Saturday, with doubles from Kyle Rankin and Ryan McLean, and strikes by Lee Ferguson and Connor Paton.

In their opening fixture, YM’s Caledonian League team fell behind to a goal in each half against Dalziel.

They were denied what looked like a good goal for offside ahead of the interval, and David Cameron pulled a goal back, but he and Craig Tocher had further efforts ruled offside.

On Saturday, Giffnock North were the visitors, and YM’s highlight from the first half was keeper Fraser Campbell saving a penalty.

However, Giffnock scored from a second award, and YM were denied a penalty when Cammy McCulloch looked to be upended.

YM’s Caley team visit Dalziel on Saturday.

EKFC Development squad beat EK Thistle Colts 5-0 in the first game of the EKYM Centenary Summer League, in memory of Angus McConnell.

Another centenary celebration for over-50s and 35s to 50s seven-a-side will be held at Kirktonholme on June 27.

Anyone wishing to enter a team should contact any YM member.
