Mixed reality and gaming firm BetaJester joins Hull's C4DI community

Mixed reality and gaming specialist BetaJester has joined the C4DI’s thriving tech community in Hull.

Founded in May 2015 by University of Hull graduates Adam Boyne, Ryan Lay and Josh Porter, BetaJester is now a growing and award-winning company.

The trio originally launched the company with a vision to produce their own video games, but have since expanded their services to include virtual reality, app development, interactive marketing and business software.

BetaJester recently moved offices to Hull’s Old Town, and have now become a company member at C4DI, joining a host of other innovative tech and digital businesses.

Josh Porter, co-founder, said: “We produce VR experiences for a wide variety of sectors, including digital marketing, construction and architecture, as well as training for the emergency services.

“After moving offices to Hull’s Old Town, we thought it was a logical step to join C4DI and become more involved with the region’s thriving tech community.

“We’re extremely keen to meet new people, so please do pop and say hello if you see us around the building.”

BetaJester is growing fast after a successful first four years of business.

The trio of founders have now added a fourth member to their team, in the shape of software developer Lee Drury.

BetaJester is rapidly building an impressive list of international clients, including various luxury hotels around the world.

More locally, BetaJester has also collaborated with Ron Dearing UTC to create a stunning 360 degree virtual tour of the college, and completed a heritage project based on the Hull Floods of 1646.

Most recently, the company’s work has attracted the attention of Top Tech Yorkshire, which recognised BetaJester in the 2019 report as “stars of the future” and a standout company in the region.

BetaJester were one of the 15 companies from across the UK which secured further funding from the UK Games Fund (Pixel Pro Media)

BetaJester has also been busy creating a number of video games, including its latest Forgotten Sea, which in November was awarded further support from the UK Games Fund.

“This was a big show of faith and belief in our team, from a hugely respected organisation within the UK games industry,” Josh said.

BetaJester has now joined C4DI’s rapidly-growing community as a member.

Last week, construction work also began on a new building that will provide a major fresh stimulus for the fast-growing tech sector in Hull.

The new three-storey sister building for the C4DI will create much-needed space for start-up and rapidly-growing established digital businesses.

It is expected to create around 160 new jobs and is supported with nearly £1.3m from the Humber’s Local Growth Fund allocation, secured from the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP).
