Mixed opinion over gym proposed for Chilwell Retail Park

A gym is proposed to open at the Chilwell Retail Park - but public opinion is split.

Corona Vulcan Chilwell Limited has tabled a bid to open such a facility in a unit at the site off Barton Lane.

It has submitted details to Broxtowe Borough Council about the proposals.

Public reaction was mixed.

Retired Open Reach worker Ian Street, 62, who lives nearby, said he wouldn't use the facility.

“I think another shop would be better," he said.

“Something like a B&Q, something like that."

Jean Barber, 57, a retired payroll manager from Chilwell, added: “There’s the Village Hotel, and I use the Village Hotel, so I don’t know if they need another gym.

“I think the retail side of things is quite adequate [at the retail park] so a gym probably would be good."

Holly Makin, 18, a martial arts instructor from Chilwell, said: "It is a good idea, you know especially after lockdown people are wanting to look into fitness and new things.

"I think people will say 'there’s a new gym, I want to try it out and see what’s there'.

“So I think it will be a good idea for some people.”
