Mixed injury news for Wigan Warriors as three prepare for return

Wigan Warriors duo Liam Marshall and Oliver Gildart are in line to make their first appearances of the season this weekend, but fullback Bevan French has undergone surgery on a torn hamstring which could rule him out for several months.

The Warriors are nervously awaiting the results on French's operation to the injury he suffered during their recent victory against Salford to determine just how long they will be without the Australian for.

However, there is better news on the injury front elsewhere, with Marshall and Gildart in line to return to Adrian Lam's squad for the first time in 2021 following serious injury lay-offs.

Furthermore, both are in contention alongside Academy product Umyla Hanley to fill the gap vacated by French and the suspended Zak Hardaker at fullback against Salford on Friday evening.

"We've got Liam and Oliver coming back, and with Umyla, who is our Academy fullback, it'll be one of those three who plays there," Lam said on Tuesday. "We're having a tinker and we'll settle with that for our team run on Thursday."

Lam will also welcome Willie Isa back into his squad for Friday's game, but the news on French is less positive for the Warriors. "Bevan has had surgery now, and we're waiting back for the surgeons to give us an exact timeframe," Lam said. "We should know by the end of this week."
