There were mixed fortunes today for Footsie's seven new entrants, elevated to the main index in the recent reshuffle that saw Northern Rock, among others, booted down to the second tier.
Holiday firm TUI Travel briefly topped the leaderboard, perhaps reflecting the wishful thinking of those traders still at their desks. Its shares ended among the top 10 risers, with a near 3% gain, at 291.75p.
Other newcomers had a less inspiring session, including Admiral, which was the biggest faller with a 3% decline at £10.95. And Kelda was off 1.4% at £10.78.
Overall, though, London shares ended the half-day session in good spirit, with the FTSE 100 closing 45.2 points higher at 6479.3.
That's it now for Market Forces Live until Thursday, when we'll be looking out for the first post-Christmas profit warnings from the retail sector.
A very Happy Christmas to all our readers.
