Mitchell Trubisky insists Bears can turn things around. But is it too late?

After the Chicago Bears lost their third straight game to a Los Angeles Chargers team that had no sense winning, you have to wonder if it’s too late for the Bears this season.

While technically the Bears could still finish 12-4 — if they win their remaining nine games, which is more than highly unlikely — it’s more than that. The NFC is stacked this season, particularly the NFC North, where the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings are starting to pull away.

Which is what made Sunday’s loss to the Chargers so demoralizing. It was a game the Bears couldn’t afford to loss. But they did, and now the season is in jeopardy.

Quarterback Mitchell Trubisky continues to come under fire for his erratic performances this season, including Sunday against the Chargers, where he was wildly inconsistent.

While Trubisky ultimately put the Bears in a position to win the game on the final drive — a 41-yard missed field goal by Eddy Pineiro, Trubisky did little to silence the doubts surrounding his future in Chicago.

“It’s a gut check,” Trubisky said, via the Chicago Tribune. “It’s who’s going to rise up to the challenge this week, who’s going to continue to work hard and stick together when we’re going through adversity. And you’ve got to embrace it. … It’s never too late. We can definitely turn it around.”

The Bears will face the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday in a rematch of last season’s Wildcard Playoffs. While the opportunity is there for them to turn things around, it ultimately comes down to what they do on the football field not what they say off it.

With seven games in the books, the Bears have nine games to prove whether they’re capable of that improvement. Or, in Trubisky’s case, if he has a chance for a future in Chicago.
