Mitcham death: Girl, four, dies and woman in hospital with life-threatening injures

A four-year-old girl has died and a 35-year-old woman has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries following an incident in south London.

The pair were found inside a flat at Monarch Parade in Mitcham at 4pm on Tuesday.

Police launched an investigation but said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.

No arrests have been made.

The Metropolitan Police said in a statement that officers were called to a report of two people injured.

“Officers and London Ambulance Service attended and a woman and a child were inside a property suffering injuries,” the force added.

“The woman, aged 35, has been taken to hospital where her injuries are deemed life-threatening.

“The child, a four-year-old girl, was also taken to hospital however was pronounced dead shortly after. Next of kin have been informed.

“A post-mortem examination will take place in due course. Officers remain in the area and a crime scene is in place.

“At this early stage, police are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.”

Police have not revealed any further detail about the nature of the injuries or the relationship between the child and the woman.
