Mitcham crash: Pedestrian killed in crash involving police vehicle on 999 call

A man has died in a horror crash involving a police vehicle responding to a 999 call.

The pedestrian, in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene in Mitcham, London, at around 11.30am.

London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance both attended but were unable to save the victim, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said.

The directorate of professional standards and the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) have been notified.

The man's next of kin are currently being informed. while emergency services remain at the scene.

The crash is the latest in a number of collisions to have taken place involving emergency vehicles this year.

In January, a woman died after being hit by a marked police car on an emergency call in Walthamstow, London.

Luam Gebremariam, 26, died as she walked by to her hostel.

A woman was also killed when she was hit by a police car in Bedworth, Warwickshire the same month.
