A man has died after being hit by a police car in south London.

The man, believed to be in his 60s, was struck by the marked car at 11.30am on Wednesday.

Police said the marked car was responding to an emergency call when the collision took place in Western Road, Mitcham.

The man was treated by London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance but was pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin are being informed.

A number of road closures are in place in the area.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct and The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards have been notified, Scotland Yard said.
