Mitch Trubisky wants to play his entire career with Bears

Recently, Jim McMahon, the only quarterback to win a Super Bowl with the Bears, had some words of wisdom for third-year quarterback Mitch Trubisky.

If Trubisky wins a championship with the Bears, then Chicago will “love him forever.”

McMahon speaks from personal experience, having been a part of the legendary 1985 Bears, a team that 34 years later still has a significant presence in Chicago.

For a franchise that’s had underwhelming wealth at the quarterback position over its storied 100 years, that statement holds immense power.

Trubisky, who shares the same agent as Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, was asked about Wentz’s four-year extension, which sets him up for a comfortable future in Philadelphia.

More specifically, Trubisky was asked if he wants to play his entire career with the Bears. His answer was a resounding “absolutely.”

Trubisky completed 66.6 percent of his passes and threw for 3,223 yards, 24 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 2018. He helped lead the Bears to a 12-4 turnaround, which included the franchise’s first NFC North title in eight seasons.

But what the Bears accomplished in 2018 is just the beginning of what they hope to achieve in 2019 and beyond. It’s the appeal of what the future holds that also excites Trubisky.

“I think we’re building something great here,” he told reporters. “I love the city, I love the fans and I love where I live. I love coming to work at Halas Hall every day, and I love my teammates. For me, it’s just taking it one day at a time and embracing the process. But that’s the goal, for sure.”

If Trubisky remains a Bear for his entire career, then he clearly will be doing something right. Perhaps even immortalizing himself among the champions in Bears history.
