Mitch Trubisky’s shoulder injury is similar to one he suffered in 2018

It’s been a season to forget for Chicago Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky.

The former second overall pick of the 2017 NFL draft lost his starting job in Week 3 to veteran Nick Foles, and in his only appearance since his demotion to QB2 — which came on a running play in Week 8 against the Saints — he suffered an injury to his throwing shoulder that could have a long-reaching impact on his future.

According to NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, Trubisky’s injury is similar to the one he suffered in 2018, which forced him to miss two games.

Surgery hasn’t been ruled out this time around.

Trubisky is on the final year of his rookie contract and won’t be back in Chicago next season. An injury to his throwing shoulder, one that could require surgery to repair, is the worst-case scenario for a quarterback who will be looking for a fresh start on the open market next March.
