There are plenty of reasons for the Bears to find a job for Mitch Trubisky. He’s athletic, he’s not doing anything else and this offense needs any help it can get.
In one of his more creative moves recently, coach Matt Nagy sent Trubisky in as a wildcat quarterback late in the first quarter Sunday against the Saints. He took the snap on first-and-10 at the Saints’ 35-yard line and picked up three yards.
Trubisky hadn’t seen the field since getting benched in favor of Nick Foles in the second half against the Falcons in Week 3. Foles led the Bears to a tremendous comeback and has held the job ever since.
The Bears ended that drive with a 44-yard field goal by Cairo Santos to tie the game 3-3.
While passing hasn’t necessarily been Trubisky’s forte, he has always been a good runner. He was averaging 5.8 yards per carry for his career and had eight carries for 87 yards this season.
