Mitch Rose double helps seals brilliant 4-2 win for Notts County at Halifax in a breathless second half performance

Notts County sealed their first win in the National League since the end of October as they showed terrific character to secure a 4-2 win at Halifax.

The Magpies could have opened the scoring in the first half when Wes Thomas headed over the bar, but it was the hosts who took the lead when Michael Duckworth's shot was deflected beyond Ross Fitzsimons.

Kyle Wootton then levelled matters with a firm finish after Sean Shield's free-kick had been half-cleared only for Jamie Allen to put Halifax back in front.

Notts showed tremendous character again to haul themselves level as Rose struck a thunderous volley from just inside the box, before he then clipped the bar with another fierce drive.

Thomas then headed over the bar again as Notts pushed for a winner and it eventually arrived when Enzio Boldewijn, who was exceptional in the second half, was fouled.

Rose then struck home the decisive penalty and Wootton wrapped it up in stoppage time.
