Mist shot in Portugal: Birmingham rapper rushed to hospital after suspected armed robbery in Algarve

Award-winning British rapper Mist was taken to hospital after being shot at an Algarve villa during a suspected robbery.

The burglars were said to have taken the 27-year-old’s passport, phones and jewellery from the villa in the town of Almancil.

Birmingham-born Mist, right, real name Rhys Thomas Sylvester, was driven to Faro Hospital by two friends.

The friends, a man and a woman, reported to police at the hospital that he was shot in the leg at about 10pm yesterday during a robbery committed by two or three men inside the rented property.

Heavily-armed officers went to the resort and forced entry to make sure that the suspected burglars were not still inside.

Hospital officials and police have yet to release information about the condition of the rapper, a Mobo-award winner whose February 2018-EP Diamond In The Dirt peaked at number four in the UK albums chart.

Three songs from the EP also entered the singles chart.

  • UPDATE: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that the incident happened in a villa on the Quinta do Lago estate.
