Missy Elliott brings ex-child star to perform Work It - 16 years after the original

Hip-hop legend Missy Elliott rolled back the years as Alyson Stoner joined her on stage again.

As a ten-year-old, the teeny dancer appeared in the video for smash hit Work It.

The pig-tailed child played a big part in the 2003 track and the pair have stayed in touch ever since.

Missy was honoured with the Video Vanguard Award on Monday night and played some of classics as she took to the stage.

But she didn't want to do it without Alyson.

Now aged 26, she hasn't lost any of her moves as the crowd were introduced to her at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Showing off in her yellow tracksuit, she rolled back the years - and also stuck around for Get Ur Freak On from her 2001 album Miss E.

It was an emotional night for the star after being handed her award by Cardi B.

"I promised I wouldn't cry this time because I cry every awards!" she said.

"It means so much to me. I have worked diligently for over two decades.

"I never thought that I would be standing up here receiving this award, so it means so much to me.

"I want to dedicate this award to the dance community all around the world, because when y'all get on the stage with these artists, it is not - y'all are not just props. Y'all are the icing on the cake. Y'all are the beats to the heart."

Fans loved the fact she invited Alyson back after so long.

"What a great touch by Missy," wrote one.

"I love that Alyson Stoner is at the #VMAs the night Missy Elliott gets her Vanguard Award," another posted.

"Nobody deserves to be in the video vanguard more than Missy," Cardi B said.
