Missouri (0-0) vs. Wyoming (0-0) Game Preview
It’s the first day of Missouri’s “Every Game’s A Bowl” tour.
After getting hit with NCAA sanctions, the Tigers don’t get to play for a bowl, so this is all it. Everything this year has to be fun, and that includes the second game ever against Wyoming.
Mizzou won last year 40-13.
After this, the Tigers get West Virginia and then SE Missouri State before diving into the SEC world against South Carolina.
This is mainly it for a while for Wyoming with Texas State, Idaho and Tulsa kicking off a world tour of games against teams that didn’t go bowling. But after missing out on a bowl appearance last season, a splashy win over an SEC program would be just what it needs.
Why Missouri Will Win
Does Wyoming have an offense this season?
It’s been a while since the Cowboys got the passing game going, and now it’s dealing with a Mizzou secondary that gets back three starters.
UW can’t afford to get into any sort of a shootout. The rushing attack that was so good at times throughout last season will have to try getting going right away in what should be an active defensive front seven.
On the other side, it’s the debut of Clemson transfer Kelly Bryant, and he has the weapons to work with. The Missouri passing game shouldn’t have too many problems, the ground attack should be stellar, and the protection will be there from the line to make it all go. However …
Why Wyoming Will Win
The Wyoming defense should be terrific at home this season.
Last year’s D had issues against Washington State, Boise State and Missouri – that was about it. Most of the top tacklers are back and the linebacking corps is going to bring the thump right out of the gate. This is a hard-nosed team that should be able to hold up against the run.
Offensively, Wyoming has a good-looking line that should be able to hold up against a new group of Missouri defensive tackles. This is a strong all-around Tiger team, but it’s going to need to work through a few growing pains. As a program, Wyoming is just plucky enough to make this a fight, but …
What’s Going To Happen
The Cowboys won’t be able to generate enough of a pass rush.
Bryant will be sharp after a tough first few drives, the Tiger defense will take over as the game goes on, and everything will go just fine for the SEC team that won’t have to leave Missouri until late October – five straight home games follow this.
