COLUMBIA, Mo. _ Missouri intends to hire Jim Sterk as its new athletic director, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Star on Monday.
Sterk, 60, who has been at San Diego State since February 2010, succeeds Mack Rhoades, who resigned July 13 to become the athletic director at Baylor.
With the Aztecs, Sterk has proven to be an adept fundraiser. He is one of the reigning National Association of College Directors of Athletics' Athletic Directors of the year and is a member of the NCAA Division I men's basketball committee.
Sterk, a native of Bellingham, Wash., who grew up in Nooksack, served as Washington State's athletic director for 10 years prior to his arrival at San Diego State and was the Portland State athletic director from 1995-2000.
Mizzou's intention to hire Sterk was first reported by Bill Pollock of Missourinet.
