Missouri QB Drew Lock falls to Chargers in latest CBS Sports mock draft

CBS Sports’ Chris Trapasso sent former Missouri quarterback to the Chargers in his latest mock draft.

Los Angeles will need a signal caller after Philip Rivers, whose contract has a dead-cap hit of $7 million in 2019 and will be a free agent in 2020, or he could choose to retire.

To some, drafting Rivers’ successor in the 2019 NFL draft would not be a sexy selection. There’s plenty of reason to believe that, as the 37-year old QB is coming off a pretty good season, and showed very little signs of slowing down soon. Plus, the quarterback class is well below average compared to others in the past and that are coming up in the future.

Mocking Lock to the Bolts was very common entering the season after they opted not to grab one in the 2018 NFL draft. Many felt that this would be the perfect marriage considering the fact that Lock has some raw aspects to his game and sitting behind Rivers for a year or two would allow him to optimize those.

It’s unlikely that the former Missouri product falls all the way to No. 28 overall anyway with there being at least four teams in front of them that will be in desperate need of a quarterback. But general manager Tom Telesco has had luck with players falling into their lap in the past, so he may be tempted to pull the trigger if he’s indeed a prospect high on their board.
