Missing woman Novy Chardon was afraid her husband would kill her, court told

A Gold Coast woman allegedly murdered by her husband told a neighbour that if she did not return from an overseas trip then he had "probably killed her", a court has heard.

John Chardon is on trial in the Supreme Court in Brisbane accused of murdering his wife, Novy.

Ms Chardon, 34, disappeared from Upper Coomera in February 2013 and her body has never been found.

The Chardon's neighbour, Glenn Liscombe, told the court on Monday the couple had been having marital problems.

"She feared for her life, she told me that," Mr Liscombe said.

"She said that if she didn't come back from an overseas trip that John had probably killed her or organised for her to be killed."

The court heard Ms Chardon asked him to go to the police if she failed to return home.

Mr Liscombe said around the time Ms Chardon went missing he noticed "erratic activity" at the family home, which included Mr Chardon and his two adult daughters driving quickly into the driveway.

During cross examination by the defence, Mr Liscombe told the court he saw Mr Chardon wheeling a stainless steel box to the car with a carpet cleaning vacuum inside.

Morag Hermann, who looked after the Chardons' children occasionally, told the court Mr Chardon liked a clean home and "everything had to perfect".

Another witness, Kylie Fryer, told the court she last saw Ms Chardon at school pick up the day she vanished.

Ms Fryer said Ms Chardon was relieved to be getting things sorted with the divorce lawyer but was "scared" as to how her estranged husband would react.

When questioned by the defence, Ms Fryer agreed Ms Chardon had told her she was worried her husband would leave her without money.

The trial continues.
