Missing Tynemouth hiker, 80, found alive after three-day search in Yorkshire Dales

An 80-year-old hiker from Tynemouth who had been missing in the Yorkshire Dales for three days has been found alive.

Pensioner Harry Harvey was first reported missing at 1.30pm on Sunday September 6 after failing to meet his friend at the Tan Hill Inn in Richmond.

Police feared Mr Harvery, a competent hiker, had got lost en route.

Concern had been growing as he had spent two nights in the elements.

However on Tuesday morning it was confirmed that a wildlife photographer had found him alive.

An emotional video posted on the Tan Hill Inn Facebook page shortly before 11am shows Mr Harvey being embraced by a relieved loved one.

Mountain search and rescue teams have been working tirelessly to find Mr Harvey with locals and workers asked to check sheds, barns and other outbuildings.

Those involved include Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team, Teesdale and Weardale Mountain Rescue Team, North of Tyne Mountain Rescue, Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue, Cleveland Mountain Rescue, RAF Mountain Rescue and Mountain Rescue Search Dogs England.
