Missing the seaside? Experience a coastal drive without breaking lock down

Are you wishing you could see the sea right now?

For many of us stuck inland during lockdown, without a beach in walking distance, there's little we'd like more than to enjoy the sights of the North East's gorgeous coast.

But we know it's vital to avoid non-essential journeys to keep ourselves and others safe.

So, here's the next-best thing.

Enjoy a drive down some of our region's most beloved coastline, from the comfort of your own home.

Starting in Tynemouth, we drive down past the atmospheric priory, into pretty seaside Cullercoats and through to Whitley Bay.

In the there-and-back-again trip we pass the water on both sides and the sweeping sandy beaches.

If the seaside isn't your thing - or you already live on this part of the coast - for another at-home atmospheric journey, you could might enjoy this video tour of the train route from Newcastle to Edinburgh, which condenses the stunning journey into eight minutes.

We know it's simply not the same as visiting the places that you love, but enjoying them through a phone or computer screen can be a great way to experience them while it's not safe to visit in person.

Hopefully we'll be back on those beaches soon.
