Missing teen seen on CCTV in Walkden hours before disappearing - he's now believed to be 250 miles away

Police are appealing for help to find a missing teenager who was captured on CCTV in Salford just hours before he disappeared from Sheffield.

Jaiyan Schmidt was pictured in Walkden between 2pm and 4pm on Wednesday, August 19.

Police believe he then travelled to Sheffield, where he was spotted near Ponds Forge swimming pool in the city centre, before driving over 250 miles to Sussex on the south coast.

Sheffield Inspector Kevin Smith said: "We believe he then travelled from Sheffield to Sussex on the 20 August in a white Ford Focus driven by a woman described as being white and approximately 21-years-old with long brown hair.

"We believe Jaiyan bought a new outfit and could now be wearing an all-grey Nike tracksuit and black and white Adidas trainers.

“I’d like to appeal to anyone who thinks they have seen him over the last week, to contact police.

"Jaiyan, if you are reading this, please get in touch – your family are worried about you and we just want to make sure that you are safe.”

The 17-year-old is described as being 6ft 2in tall, of slim build with short cropped black hair.

Before his disappearance, he spent much of his time in the Aughton, Beighton and Woodhouse areas of Sheffield.

Anyone who lives in these areas, Walkden or Hastings is asked to keep an eye out for him and share their appeal across social media.

Calls can be made to South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 292 of 18 August.
