Missing socks, sass and happy ears - 12 things you only know if you have a golden retriever

Golden retrievers are absolutely adorable and hilarious.

They are giant fluffy goofballs who keep their dog parents entertained with their shenanigans.

Many owners say they never feel lonely or bored when they have a golden retriever in their life.

And for those who don't there's millions of videos online showing why they are so popular.

Owners of the beautiful breed know only too well what it’s like to have one of these golden, fluffy, sock-stealing babies.

So here are 12 things you’ll only know if you have a golden retriever:

They’re extremely loyal

You can always count on a golden to be by your side no matter what.

They are super loving and huge fuss pots and they will go anywhere as long as they are going there with you.

You have no personal space

Gone are the days of having privacy when you’re on the loo.

They need to make sure you don’t fall down the giant water bowl.

You might want to invest in a bigger bed too because there definitely needs to be room for one more.

People confuse them with labradors

Although they are quite similar in appearance and mannerisms, believe it or not, there is a difference.

Just take note of their coats.

They shed a lot

If you don’t like dog hair then they aren’t the dog for you.

They have super fluffy manes and gorgeous tresses of golden hair on the backs of their legs, also known as trousers in the golden community.

As well as this they also have gorgeous tail feathers that swish beautifully when wagged.

They are majestic as heck

There’s just something so majestic about them. It’s just the way they sit and pose, it makes them look very regal.

They love babies

They love and protect our babies as though they are their own.

Want to know how to stop a baby from crying? Just get a golden retriever.

They are so gentle and caring and are always on hand with a head cuddle to help.

Sometimes they aren’t that great at retrieving

There’s only so many times they’re going to bring the ball back.

Once you’ve reached that limit you’ve got to fetch it yourself.

They’re so sassy

Take note of the adorable bum wiggle and tail swishes when they walk.

Also, it’s so cute when they get an attitude and do little grumbly barks at you when they want something or when they don’t want to do something.

They are easy to train

Their minds are like sponges.

It doesn’t take them very long to learn a new trick or command.

They are just so willing to learn and the possibilities are endless with them, which is why they make amazing guide dogs.

They adore socks

There’s a reason why none of your socks match anymore and that reason is down to a golden fluffy four-legged dog.

Try searching in their toybox, down the side of your bed to find the missing socks, failing that they may have been buried deep in the crevasses of your sofa.

Their ears

Although they don’t mind a little head pat their absolute favourite place for a fuss is by their ears.

Just watch their gorgeous frown when you hit the right spot.

Happy ears is another thing they do that makes your heart literally burst. There is nothing like seeing their tail rapidly wag and their ears go right back with happiness and excitement.

They can never have enough toys

Retrievers love their soft cuddly toys and they love every single one of them.

Although they have their favourites, they like to make time to play and cuddle with each one.
