Missing Scottish spaniel recovered 455 miles away in Surrey park

Overjoyed Iona McGregor described the two boys who found her beloved pet in a park in Surrey on Tuesday this week as “superstars”.

Iona said she was “incredibly happy” that her dog had been found by such lovely people.

The boys had been reluctant to leave the lost pooch which they said seemed to be asking for help so they took her home.

One of the boys parents took the dog to a local vet to be checked over and scanned for a microchip.

Iona, who is still understandably wary about naming her dogs, said: “She is home safe after being found by two young boys, Thomas and Colby, in Meade Park, Chertsey, Surrey – 455 miles away.

“I am overjoyed to be able to say that both my dogs are home safe. The suffering and fear they have both gone through is just awful.

“They are both extremely on edge and won’t go anywhere without carrying a toy, even the one who was found a week ago.

“I was speechless when I heard the second one had been found.”

lona thanked everyone who had shared information about the dogs in a bid to make them “too hot to handle.”

She is urging vigilance as, despite having CCTV and being in locked kennels, the thieves still managed to make off with her pets.

Her other golden cocker was recovered 300 miles away on Tuesday last week after being picked up by a dog warden on the streets of Nottinghamshire.

Iona would like to see the law changed in relation to dogs.

She continued: “I cannot express how much anger I feel towards the people who did this.

The law needs to change immediately. At the minute stolen dogs are classed as property. It is an animal welfare issue.

“The SSPCA, RSPCA and police should be doing more to stop this sort of thing happening. Also if people did the correct checks when buying puppies or older dogs there would be hardly any, if any, being stolen as they would be no use to the thieves.”

Police are still investigating the thefts as well as that of two springer spaniels stolen from kennels in Kingussie in the HIghlands. It is believed the thefts in both cases were planned, with properties thought to have been watched beforehand.

Search still on Trigger is still missing (Missing Pets PK)

One of the Kingussie dogs was later recovered in Crieff but the other, four year-old Trigger, is still missing.

A Facebook page Help Find Maggie & Trigger has been set up.

Anyone with information on either of the thefts should call Police Scotland on 101.
