A 12-year-old boy who went missing following an incident at a school in Rotherham has been found safe and well, police have said.
Joshua Oxley’s family reported the schoolboy’s disappearance at 4.30pm on Tuesday after he failed to return home at the usual time. He was then filmed on CCTV at nearby Chapeltown railway station and also in Leeds city centre.
According to a statement released on Wednesday afternoon by South Yorkshire police, the schoolboy was found by officers in Leeds city centre.
The statement said: “Police can confirm that missing 12-year-old Joshua Oxley has been found safe and well in Leeds city centre this afternoon [Wednesday] after joint work by West Yorkshire police and South Yorkshire police. We’d like to thank everyone for sharing the appeal to locate Joshua and thank all who came forward with information to help with our inquiries.”
A police helicopter and a mountain rescue unit had been dispatched in the overnight search. Supt Paul McCurry, of Rotherham district police, said Joshua’s disappearance was out of character and could have been as a result of a minor incident at school on Tuesday.
