Missing offshore worker sparks rescue mission after vanishing 100 miles off Scots coast

Rescuers are currently searching for a missing offshore worker 100 miles east of Aberdeen.

Concerns were said to be raised on Sunday night after the 50-year-old man was reported missing from an offshore installation around 100 miles south-east of Aberdeen.

The rescue operation was launched at around 9.20pm after workers onboard the North Sea rig raised the alarm.

Two oil supply vessels, a Coastguard helicopter and a Coastguard aeroplane have been supporting the search efforts overnight.

The search remains ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9.20pm on Sunday, 22 January, 2023, officers received a report of a 50-year-old man missing from an oil rig in the North Sea.

“Police are liaising with partner agencies to establish the full circumstances.”
