Missing kite surfer found alive after spending night on marshland wrapped in kite

A kite surfer who was reported missing has been found alive after spending the night on marshland and wrapped in his kite.

Christopher Goldsworthy, 32, had last been seen kite surfing at Pendine Sands, Carmarthenshire, Wales at 5pm on Sunday.

His mother Wendy Goldsworthy posted on social media saying that he had not returned to his vehicle and that a fellow kite surfer had reported him missing.

Police, local RNLI teams and a coastguard helicopter desperately searched for the surfer but he was not found.

Searches resumed on Monday morning and Christopher was located shortly before 9.30am, reports Wales Online.

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “We can confirm that missing kite surfer Christopher Goldworthy has been found safe this morning.

“After spending the night on marshes near Llansteffan, he made his way to the nearest house and has since spoken to police officers.

“We would like to thank everyone who shared our appeal, and our colleagues at HM Coastguard and RNLI for their assistance in the search last night.”

Wendy said the news was a “massive relief” to her and her family.

“My son Chris has been found safe and well. Probably starving,” she wrote on social media.

“He’d been blown into Llansteffan and spent the night wrapped up in his kite. Thank you to all friends and family plus huge thanks to HM Coastguard, Dyfed-Powys Police and the RNLI who were all so involved in the search.

“It’s such a massive relief. Also amazingly supportive to know how many people have contacted us.

“Thank you all so very much.”
