Missing James Coyle: body recovered from canal in search for Drumchapel dad

Police have confirmed a body has been found in the search for missing Drumchapel man James Coyle.

A body was recovered from the Forth and Clyde Canal at Linnvale this afternoon and James' family have been made aware.

A post mortem will soon be carried out, with police currently treating the death as unexplained.

The 34-year-old was last seen on Sollas Place on November 29, sparking a frantic search for his whereabouts, including police stop and search operations in the area.

Almost five weeks after his disappearance, at the start of January, his family said they would 'not give up on the search to bring him home to his mum, son and family.'

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland this afternoon confirmed: “Around 12.05 pm on Tuesday, 19 January, 2021, police received a report of a body in the Canal near to Strauss Avenue, Clydebank.

“Emergency services attended and the body of a man has been recovered.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the identity of the man and a post mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact cause of death. Police are treating the death as unexplained meantime.

“The family of James Coyle (34) who has been missing from Knightswood since 29 November, 2020 has been made aware of the discovery.”
