Missing Irene McArthur: family member's plea for 'gravely unwell' Edinburgh woman to get in touch

The cousin of missing 59-year-old Edinburgh woman Irene McArthur took to Twitter to beg local residents to keep a close eye out for her missing family member, who hasn't been seen since 1am on Wednesday 12 February.

Police issued an appeal to help find Irene yesterday afternoon (12 February), saying:

"Irene McArthur was last seen in the Little France area of Edinburgh around 1am on 12th February 2020 and there are concerns for her welfare.

"Irene is described as about 5 feet tall, medium build with short light coloured hair. She was wearing a beige jumper and dark trousers."

Today (13 February) her cousin Leanne tweeted:

"This is Irene McArthur, my cousin, she’s been missing since 1am on the 12th Feb. Irene has pneumonia and is gravely unwell. We need to find her quickly. She’s a well known resident of Bingham and is liked by all! Please, let her family know she’s safe!"

Leanne told Edinburgh Live :

"I’m trying to ensure that everyone knows they can contact us in confidence. Irene is small in stature but a huge character. Her family just need to know she is safe and well. She’s done nothing wrong!

"She’s had pneumonia recently and the weather is clearly not kind. She’s well known around Craigmillar, Niddrie, Bingham, and Portobello. She has friends everywhere around these areas and is hugely liked."

Anyone who may have seen Irene since this time, or who has any information on her whereabouts, is urged to contact Police Scotland via 101 quoting incident number 0138 of 12/02/2020.

Alternatively, if people don’t want to talk to the police, they can contact any of Irene's family members.
