Missing girl found dead in river in Scotland named by police

A 12-year-old girl has died after getting into difficulty in a river in western Scotland.

Ava Gray from Alexandria, West Dunbartonshire, was pulled from the River Leven on Sunday evening.

She was pronounced dead at the scene near Balloch Bridge. Her family has been informed.

Police had been called to report that “three young people had got into difficulty” in the river at about 6.45pm.

Emergency services attended and launched a search and rescue operation.,

The two other children, one boy and one girl, managed to get themselves out of the water.

Ava was recovered from the river but pronounced dead at about 9.45pm.

Officers said there were no suspicious circumstances and a report would be sent to the procurator fiscal.
