The 30-year-old case of a missing Italian girl has been reopened after a new report containd claims she was being heldon a Turkish island, after being kidnapped as a child.
Angela Celentano who mysteriously vanished from a family picnic in Naples at the age of three, is now living on the island of Buyukada, near Istanbul, according to the alleged report.
Italian authorities have ordered a new investigation after an Italian woman claimed Angela is living with a man who she believes is her father.
The Italian woman, Vincenza Trentinella, claimed the information was given to her by a dying priest, who allegedly said it was revealed to him during a confession.
Trentinella claimed she had travelled to Turkey and met with Angela, as well as her alleged abductor.
Once she had returned to Italy she notified the police. The Italian police are now re-examining the case in cooperation with authorities in Turkey.
Angela's parents have been searching for their daughter for 27 years and are reportedly hopeful she might finally return home.
They have received numerous anonymous reports of sightings over the years, taking them to places as far flung as Mexico, South Africa, and Venezuela.
However, no tip-off to date has resulted in Angela being found. In spite of the failed leads, her family has never stopped searching for her.
Angela Celentano disappeared on August 10, 1996 when she was on a family trip with her parents and sisters. The family were on an organised trip to Mount Faito, near Castellammare di Stabia.
The trip quickly became the family's worst nightmare when, around 1pm, during a picnic, Father Catello noticed that then three-years-old Angela was no longer sitting behind him whilst he was eating, where he last saw her a minute ago.
The group began looking for Angela, but the toddler was nowhere to be seen.
The family immediately alerted the police.
Before long police, firefighters and Civil Defence volunteers were gathered at Mount Faito and a search was launched for the tot.
Soldiers joined in and and every corner of the Mount was scoured.
The parents remained in place for four days and four nights while the search continued.
In 2010, the Celentano family opened a website to ask anyone who knew anything about Angela to contact them.
The family received the details of Celeste Ruiz who lived in Mexico and was believed to be Angela. For two years the family exchanged details and were convinced that Celeste could be their missing girl.
But the police informed the family that Celeste was a false name and untraceable - but the family ended up adopting Celeste and treating her as their own daughter.
The research on the disappearance continued as Celeste's contact details gave the family insight on a location Angela could potentially be in Mexico.
Another Mexican woman who claimed to be Angela previously spontaneously presented herself to the Italian judicial authorities. She subjected to a DNA test and turned out not to be Angela Celentano.
