Missing girl, 12, sparks police search in the Highlands

A missing schoolgirl in the Highlands has sparked a huge police search.

Ferne Winton was last seen at 3pm on Friday.

She was in Teaninich Street in Alness, Ross and Cromarty.

Ferne is described as four feet, seven inches tall and of a small build, with shoulder length, brown hair.

At the time she was last seen, Ferne was wearing black clothes with a black bag.

Police are urging anyone who has seen Ferne, or those who have been in contact with her, to get in touch.

A spokesperson from Highlands and Islands Police Division said: "We are appealing for information regarding the wherabouts of Ferne Winton, aged 12, who was last seen at 3pm today at Teaninich Street, Alness.

"If you have seen Ferne or have been in contact with her today please call 101 regarding incident number 2592 of February 26."
