WASHINGTON _ On Friday, Hillary Clinton's campaign announced the headlining speakers for this month's Democratic National Convention. Missing from the partial list: anyone on the short list for vice president.
There is no mention of Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julian Castro or Labor Secretary Thomas Perez, though President Barack Obama reportedly banned Cabinet secretaries from speaking.
Similarly, there are no senators billed save for Clinton's primary opponent, Sen. Bernie Sanders, leaving open the possibility for Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia, Cory Booker of New Jersey or Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts.
Each of the four nights of the convention in Philadelphia will have a special theme with speakers highlighting each one. The first night will focus on a unity within the party and will feature Sanders and first lady Michelle Obama.
The second night will spotlight former President Bill Clinton and the mothers of those who have been killed by gun violence or police-related violence, including Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Sandra Bland, Michael Brown, Jordan Davis and Hadiya Pendleton.
President Barack Obama and Joe Biden are expected to speak on Wednesday before Clinton and her daughter Chelsea speak on Thursday.
