Missing Frenchman's body found at sea

TRAT: The body of a French national who disappeared in Koh Kut waters last week was discovered offshore Sunday.

He was identified as Alain Daniel Pascal Gaubert, 51.

The body was found Sunday morning by the crew of a local fishing boat, about 7.5 nautical miles off the island. Marine police and rescue workers took about an hour to reach the body and two more hours to bring it to shore.

Authorities launched a search on Friday morning when they were alerted to Gaubert's disappearance on Thursday night. His flip-flops were found on the beach.

Authorities continued their search until Saturday but failed to find him until they were informed of the body by the fishing crew yesterday. Gaubert and his Thai wife, Wiphawan Buayoi, were on holiday on the island from Feb 28. They were scheduled to leave today.

Police have spoken to Mrs Wiphawan.
