Missing elderly man from Leeds found safe after vehicle breaks down 47 miles away in south Manchester

An elderly man reported missing in Leeds has been found safe in south Manchester after he got lost driving around

Greater Manchester Police reported on Tuesday (March 9) that officers were called to an address in Levenshulme following reports of a broken down vehicle.

When officers attended the scene, they were able to identify the owner of the car as a man who had been reported missing by West Yorkshire Police.

Officers said the man had spent the day driving around and had managed to get lost in the process.

He was found approximately 47 miles away from Leeds where he was reported missing.

Officers were later able to recover the man’s vehicle and get him home safely.

Sharing details of the incident, the post on the GMP Fallowfield, Withington, Levenshulme & Burnage Facebook page said: “We had a report of a Elderly male whose vehicle had broken down in Levenshulme.

"On attendance we found out that he was actually reported missing from Leeds.

“The male had been driving around most of the day and got himself lost.

“After a few phone calls between ourselves and West Yorkshire Police, we arranged for his vehicle to be recovered and also get the male back home to Leeds safe and well."

People were quick to offer their support to the police effort.

"Brilliant work GMP I bet his family are happy," one user wrote.

"Well done GMP," another said.
