A missing dog was found after her saviours cooked sausages to lure her out a mountainside.
Border collie Nell had been helping search for two ultra marathon runners, who were suffering from mild hypothermia, before they were airlifted to safety near Loch an Nid.
But poor Nell was so spooked by the Coastguard helicopter she scurried off into the night leaving the Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team worried sick.
The next day two volunteers set off with an ingenious plan to bring her home.
After walking their own dogs in the direction Nell ran away in, they began to cook up a barbecue banquet in a desperate attempt to lure Nell out.
The plan worked as the anxious pet reappeared from the mountainside enticed by the delicious smelling food.
After rewarding her with sausages and bacon for surviving the ordeal in good shape, rescuers then began their five mile trek back to the road side.
Nell could then be reunited with her owners at Dundonnell MRTs local base.
Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team said: “Two off-duty members of Dundonnell MRT, Alison Smith and Rachel Drummond, decided to walk their dogs in the area where Nell had last been seen, with a view to possibly locating her.
“In addition to winter mountaineering kit, they were also equipped with a disposable barbecue, some sausages and bacon.
“Having walked to the vicinity of Loch an Nid they fired up the barbeque and soon had sausages and bacon sizzling.
“The desired effect was soon achieved - a confused and anxious Border collie appeared on the horizon, on a rocky hillside.”
